Adoption Procedures and Policies for Dogs
Before applying to adopt a dog from Woodrock Animal Rescue, it is essential that our Adoption Policy, Conditions and Agreements, and the fees payable by you, the Adopter, are read, understood and agreed to in full.
Woodrock Animal Rescue is a registered Non – Profit Organisation (NPO 103-156) and Public Benefits Organisation. We are funded through community support. Our important work on behalf of animals is reliant on the generosity of our donors.
Woodrock Animal Rescue believes that each animal deserves a loving, stable “forever home”. For this reason, the re-homing procedure is extensive. Animals in our care are treated like our own. We take this process seriously, so we are strict because we are obliged to ensure that only the best homes are found for them.
All animals will be sterilized, inoculated, vaccinated for rabies, treated for ticks and fleas and dewormed before adoption. A vaccination health record reflecting all related historical information is handed over upon handover to the new owner.
After viewing our many animals available for adoption, an adoption form must be completed.
The form can be completed online or downloaded for printing. Both iterations of the form can be accessed by clicking on the yellow “Apply to adopt now” button near the bottom of this page. We recommend you read through the remaining sections of policies and fees before proceeding with an application.
Based on the information provided in the form, we will contact you and invite you to meet the animal in person at Woodrock Animal Rescue. We ask that you bring your existing dogs for a social.
The Adopter must pay a non-refundable Application and Booking fee of R200.
If both parties are happy with the meeting and are happy to proceed, an appointment for a home-check will be made. The inspection will be conducted by a member of our staff or a volunteer.
If the home check passes scrutiny, the adoption papers will be put in order. An appointment will be made for collection of the animal(s).
Upon collection, the total adoption fee is due and payable. The animal(s) will be handed over for a trial period. This means that should it not work out for you after a few days, the animal may be returned, no questions asked!
Adoption Application and Booking Fee
A R200 non-refundable ADOPTION APPLICATION and BOOKING FEE is payable on application. This amount will be deducted from the total Adoption Fee if the application for the adoption is successful, i.e. all requisites have been met. All animals are sterilised (if old enough), inoculated, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms before leaving our premises.
Adoption Fees - Unsterilised dogs

Because there are so many homeless animals out there, Woodrock Animal Rescue aims to curb rampant and uncontrolled animal breeding by exercising its rights following the “Conditions Precedent to the Adoption Agreement and Limited Title to the Adopted Animal” below.
Conditions Precedent to the Adoption Agreement and Limited Title to the Adopted Animal
If at any time, throughout the future life of the adopted animal, Woodrock Animal Rescue, at its sole discretion, determines that the welfare of the adopted animal is compromised, or the adopter fails to comply with the Unsterilised Policy above, then Woodrock Animal Rescue retains the RIGHT to take back possession of the adopted animal from the person adopting the animal.
The Adopter further agrees that Woodrock Animal Rescue may visit the family home at future times and that access to the premises will not be withheld. The adopter further agrees that no change in ownership to the adopted animal shall occur without prior approval and consent from Woodrock Animal Rescue.
The Adopter must notify Woodrock Animal Rescue immediately should the adopted animal display any adverse health issues. In such an instance, after leaving Woodrock’s premises if so required, the Adopter is obligated to make use of a veterinary practice appointed by Woodrock Animal Rescue.
Notwithstanding any representations of its management and staff, admissions or omissions made by Woodrock Animal Rescue relating to the animal adopted, Woodrock Animal Rescue cannot be held accountable or responsible for any deviations to that. Accordingly, no liability shall attach to Woodrock Animal Rescue due to loss, damage or injury to the person or property of any person howsoever caused.
Due to the nature of Animal Rescue, we are not always able to ascertain whether an adopted animal is “house-trained”. Patience is emphasised over the transition phase.
We are always available for advice, a chat, or to give reassurance! By adopting an animal with us, you are embarking on an ongoing relationship. You have now become part of the Woodrock Animal Rescue family. We make a promise to be there for you, just as you have promised to love, protect and cherish the new member of your family.
