About Woodrock Animal Rescue
We are a leading non-profit, pro-life, rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing organisation in South Africa.
Woodrock Animal Rescue was founded in 1992 by Nicholas and Stella (Estelle) Meldau, whose focus, passion and drive afforded their animal rescue vision to become a reality. The Animal Rescue Centre originated in the suburban area of Woodmead and Khyber Rock, hence the name Woodrock. We are now based on 8.5 hectares in the beautiful Hennops River Valley.
Our motto is ACTA NON VERBA – “Action not Words”.
Woodrock Animal Rescue provides assistance to homeless, abused, neglected, stray, injured, ill, geriatric and unwanted animals that would otherwise have miserable lives and premature deaths, animals who have no voice of their own!
Woodrock Animal Rescue is one of the oldest, independent, non-profit, pro-life domestic animal rescue centres in South Africa.
Our ethos is education and sterilisation.
Provide safekeeping, food and shelter to rescued animals.
Provide food and assistance to animals owned by the less fortunate in surrounding areas, townships and informal settlements, including the sterilisation of such animals.
Understand the needs of animals and educate owners on managing and keeping rescued animals.
Encourage adoption of rescued animals.
Impress the importance of sterilisation.
Provide employment and training to the less privileged communities.
Maintain aftercare assistance once rescued animals are rehomed, rehabilitated or fostered.
Advocate the importance of inoculations, de-worming and maintaining proper safe facilities.
Conduct outreach projects in informal settlements and townships.
Continue to sterilise animals from the local communities, at our own cost, depending on earnings.
Present talks and guidance. EDUCATION is KEY.
Host school talks and workshops: Woodrock continue to be very active in the school community, we visit 5 schools a month where we conduct talks on responsible pet ownership. We conduct visits with rescue animals and educate on Pet responsibility. We also welcome school visits to Woodrock.
We offer Corporates and Learners to partake in the rehabilitation of our animals, as well as interaction with them at our Shelter.

“My husband and I visited Woodrock this weekend and it was such a pleasure to see such a well run and highly maintained shelter this is. The staff were helpful and friendly and it was clear to see how much all the animals loved the staff. God bless you all as you work so hard to help His creatures.”
“To the most amazing ladies at Woodrock. My husband and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I truly believe everything happens for a reason. From walking in at the gate and being greeted with open arms and showing us and our girls the newest editions of the family. I take my hat off to each of you and thank you for the outstanding service. I will most definitely recommend you to anyone looking to give a loving home to an abandoned animal. Thank you ladies. Clean healthy dogs and animals and such a pleasant environment. I would give you 10 stars if I could.”
“Rick and Morgan have boarded at Woodrock for the holiday. The staff are all so loving and caring. There is a genuine feeling of care and they came home happy, well adjusted and healthy. Thank you, Noel, for your daily video messages of the pups on their walks. They were happy and we were thrilled with the service.”
